Summary
Pilot hit sink on approach to landing field but did not leave enough height. Glider hit an unused telephone cable that the pilot had not noticed as the poles were hidden by trees. Glider slid down over wires and pilot landed heavily on his back.

The pilot had been ridge soaring for about 25 mins. Instructor had briefed for soaring with the possibility of top landing if all was well. Pilot was instructed to gain more height before attempting to top land but then had 50% asymmetric collapse. Glider turned sharply and dived and pilot hit hill.

The pilot was losing height and scratching for lift close in to the hill below the level of the road between the main site and Buckstones House. He was lifted suddenly, at which point his glider collapsed on the side nearest the road (this pilot's right side), seemingly in rotor. He was pulled across the road and impacted the slope on the far side.
